A lot of my clients are so focused on crushing their current goals and makin’ moves that it backing down doesn’t phase them. Because the truth is… NOW is the time to start going after your goals. When you focus on a certain time or date to begin then you’re creating an illusion of control and BS (blind sides).
Here are 3 (client proof) ways to Start Going After Your Goals NOW:
1. Pick An End Date.
If you set a date in mind when you’re going to be finished with something (not start something, big difference there) you’re more likely to finish it by that date. When I was writing my book Contagious Love, I created a date to have it out and published. Guess what? I hit my goal no problem because I gave myself a deadline to work off of. Was it easy? Not exactly but it gave me something to look forward to.
2. Start small and don’t build.
Take it one day at a time and don’t overwhelm yourself by building off of your small tasks list. I had a client who was ready to date again after a break-up. She immediately wanted to jump into every app and go on a bunch of dates at once. What I suggested is that she pace herself by going on one app at a time and one date a week. Guess what? It’s not always a numbers game. She met someone because she wasn’t rushing it. Instead, she took her time to process her feelings after a date instead of rolling into another date the next day.
3. Break up the “big” goal.
Yes the end goal is important. But if you don’t break up the goal into bite size pieces then you’re going to get stuck. I currently have a client who is creating a business she’s been passionate about so she can leave her 9-5 job that doesn’t bring her any joy, sound familiar? The way we are working toward hitting her “big” goal is creating monthly to-do lists. This makes it manageable to not only hit the goal but to track her progress and any road blacks that she can address along the way.
