Do you get tired of trying to find ways to create balance in your relationship but then have zero luck? I get it because I used to be there. Instead of harmony, you’ve got stress in your relationship. This is how you can create a balanced relationship:
1. Get your damn planner out
Organizing your life around your relationship can feel a bit overwhelming. Especially if you have an entire list of to do’s. I get it because I used to be a total, “need to do it all but can’t figure out which to do first” type of person. The majority of my clients feel the same way.
But, there are ways to minimize the to-do list and that is starting with a weekly planner. This is effective because it helps you fully organize your priorities. It keeps you accountable to your life and your relationship.
2. Be specific
What are your priorities when it comes to your life and relationship? Grab a pen and paper:
Make 2 columns. One that’s titled “life” and another that says “relationship”. In each column list your top 5 priorities. Then, circle the 3 in each column that stands out to you.
Getting this on paper helps give you a clear picture of what you need and want. A lot of times you may think you have a huge to-do list but you don’t. When you get specific on your priorities you will begin to feel in control of your life and relationship.
3. Talk to your partner
Now that you are specific on what you need for true balance, it’s time to share this with your partner. Communication for a balanced relationship is essential. It shows that you’re committed to growth in your relationship.
Discussing this helps the both of you come up with an understanding of how to support one another. It also gives you time to express the things that are important to your relationship and life.
4. Implement the balance
Now it’s time to take action girlfriend. This is where you get to decide what your week looks like by plugging in your life and relationship priorities. I always suggest to clients to plan no more than 2 weeks. Things change so it’s more realistic to create short-term goals to start.
This is also a great time to reassess. If you still feel out of balance after putting these priorities into action, then you may be trying to do too much. Or you may need to reevaluate again on what priorities you want to focus on.
5. Don’t strive for perfection
Finding balance in your relationship is definitely not sexy. It can feel frustrating trying to navigate your life in this new space. You may even feel like you are not doing it “right”. Keep in mind that you have this awareness which is key, and sometimes it takes time to see change.
The idea of all of this is to bring you a peace of mind, control, and understanding of how you want to prioritize balance in your life and relationship.
